Joseph was on the roll of those that bore arms in Scituate in 1643. "Dea. Joseph succeeded to his father's residence on Kent street. He bolonged to the 2d. Church, of which he was chosen Deacon 1655: and of course he belonged to the liberal or moderate class of Puritans."

Joseph came from England on the Hercules in 1635 with his father.
